The shutdown of the Google Plus Communities by Google in April 2019 is in my view an act of censorship. The truth is that these communities have grown to the the size of towns based on their membership. (Remember that a community with 1'000 to 20'000 members is a town, see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Settlement_hierarchy )
I suspect that having virtual town squares where people can organise around important issues was the last thing that the CIA-created Google wanted to deal with. It is also odd that the shutdown was planned for August 2019 and was then brought forward to April 2019. That implies haste to me. Typically, large corporations do reorganisations more slowly than planned because personnel has to be reallocated or made redundant. So faster than planned implies EXTERNAL INFLUENCE.
